Life in IT and beyond…
Whether you dream it or not, you will end up having a job in IT if you’re an engineer. 😉 That’s a fact actually! People from Mechanical or E & TC, if don’t get jobs in their core areas end up having a job in IT. Be it Technical support or a QA. Some of my friends from non-IT are working in IT.
For me, it all started in 2011 when I joined an IT firm. There are two types of people; one who dreams to work in an MNC and two, who will start their own companies. Because everyone has a dream! 🙂
We work so hard to make our dreams true. Whether we work in an industry or start our own businesses, everyone follows a similar life cycle. The same 9 to 6 job culture!
You enter the office, nervous deep down, and calm at the same time. You don’t know anyone, and suddenly you see a known face! Yes, that’s the HR. With a big smile on face, he welcomes you to your new working place. He shows you your desk and tells you to wait for the manager to come. You feel little nervous, little excited and with little hesitation and ownership, you sit on your desk.
And finally, here comes the manager! Suddenly you remember, oh! this is the same person you met in the parking. The HR comes again and FORMALLY introduces you to your manager and to the team, you’re going to work with!
You start your day and do the assigned work. For first few days, you feel hesitated to go on breaks but slowly-slowly you make friends and then those missed coffee breaks become the fun times!
In initial times, you come on time and mostly you leave on time. You feel life is so good. You feel everything is balanced and you enjoy every single bit of it. But as days passes, you start feeling overburdened. Suddenly, instead of enjoying your work, you start feeling exhausted. Now, you have to work till late and there is no personal or family time. 😦
You pretend to stay calm and composed but deep within, you’re all frustrated with your life! And who suffers? Your family! 😞 Sad, but true!! Because now, every day you pour out your frustration on them. You feel restless and helpless! Many times you think of leaving the job but you can’t as you have dependents.
A year completes and now it’s the time of appraisal!
Now you see the real faces of people. You just start running a cat race. Suddenly, your performance is evaluated on the times you take breaks. Suddenly, you feel every statement of your manager is ending with a “BUT”. They try to convince you, how bad you’re at your work! You feel like fighting in a battle. And the results, I know you all know it very well! 😉
On a positive note, if I say, the office is a place where you get really good friends. Yeah, I did get so! You know why? Because you all are a part of same tensions and stress. You understand each other well. And also you make fun of your situation! 😛 (I exclude people like Chatur from 3 Idiots movie 😉 ).
This is life, for almost all of us. No, it is not! Because life is beyond all these. We all so encumbered in running after money that we feel we don’t have time to live! Sometimes one becomes so workaholic that he just forgets that he has a family, waiting for him to be with. He has parents who keep on waiting for him to talk at least once a day with them. He has children who dream their dad will play with them someday! And then his wife, who looks after him without any expectation, who keeps on waiting for him till late to come home.
I’m not writing all these to teach you how to live. All I want to say is, work is equally important but find time for those who love you unconditionally. A little time spent with them will make you feel forget all your stress. Innocent smile of your kid will make you relax.Because your family is your true strength. This is what you earn for!
And that’s life.. beyond everything else! 🙂
